• Introducing Todos os Cinemas

It's Friday night, you want to see a film, and you have no idea what's on. So I made one simple page with all the screenings in Portugal, city by city.

So it's Friday night. You're tired after all that back and forth with Claude, and you want to relax and see a film.

But do you know what's in cinemas now? Probably not. You've been busy filling in AIMA forms and paid little attention to releases. Which cinema do you want to go to? You don't know that either, you've only been to one.

So you google cinemas in Lisbon and open the first site, NOS or something. You battle the cookie banner, obviously. Then you navigate a site that's new to you, one a designer spent too much time and effort on, and you find out that no film looks interesting. By now you're even more tired, and Netflix is so much easier to open.

Been there, so I made todos-os-cinemas.pt.

OK, the idea isn't mine. It's Tonsky's: allekinos.de. Its goal and execution are super simple, because the question is simple: what can I watch in my city?

So the site is a simple grid of films, times and cinemas. Zero complications. Just scroll or use Cmd+F. Most links take you straight to the ticket sale, no fuss.

You don't have to fight a cookie banner, because there are no cookies. It's just an HTML page, filled by nine scrapers that save you the googling. The Azores aren't covered, because past sessions are greyed out using Lisbon time.

The app is made with Clojure, just because. Like Tonsky's, it has a DataScript database at its core, which makes filters easy. That's about it. The code is on GitHub, without the live scrapers.

It's a not-for-profit project, and hosting is cheap. I just want to have the timetable at hand and do some good for other people. Use it and spread the word!
